چکیده

In this paper we study the convergence of a multigrid method for the solution of a two-dimensional linear second order elliptic equation, discretized by discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods. For the Baumann-Oden and for the symmetric DG method, we give a detailed analysis of the convergence for celland point-wise block-relaxation strategies. We show that, for a suitably constructed two-dimensional polynomial basis, point-wise block partitioning gives much better results than the classical cell-wise partitioning. Independent of the mesh size, for Poisson’s equation, simple MG cycles, with block Gauss Seidel and symmetric block Gauss Seidel smoothing, yield a convergence rate of 0.4 0.6 per iteration sweep for both DG-methods studied. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 65F10, 65N12, 65N15, 65N30, 65N55

Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Two-level Fourier analysis of a multigrid approach for discontinuous Galerkin discretisation

In this paper we study a multigrid method for the solution of a linear second order elliptic equation, discretized by discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods, and we give a detailed analysis of the convergence for different block-relaxation strategies. We find that point-wise block-partitioning gives much better results than the classical cell-wise partitioning. Both for the Baumann-Oden and for th...

Dispersion and Dissipation Error in High-Order Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin Discretisations of the Maxwell Equations

Different time-stepping methods for a nodal high-order discontinuous Galerkin discretisation of the Maxwell equations are discussed. A comparison between the most popular choices of Runge-Kutta (RK) methods is made from the point of view of accuracy and computational work. By choosing the strong-stability-preserving Runge-Kutta (SSP-RK) time-integration method of order consistent with the polyn...

Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Fourier two-level analysis for discontinuous Galerkin discretization with linear elements

In this paper we study the convergence of a multigrid method for the solution of a linear second order elliptic equation, discretized by discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods, and we give a detailed analysis of the convergence for different block-relaxation strategies. In addition to an earlier paper where higher-order methods were studied, here we restrict ourselves to methods using piecewise li...

Variational Space-Time Methods for the Wave Equation

The accurate and reliable numerical approximation of the hyperbolic wave equation is of fundamental importance to the simulation of acoustic, electromagnetic and elastic wave propagation phenomena. Here, we present families of variational space–time discretisation methods of higher order for the acoustic wave equation as a protoype model for the three-dimensional elastic wave equation. In tempo...

Modelling the catalyst fragmentation pattern in relation to molecular properties and particle overheating in olefin polymerization

A two-dimensional single particle finite element model was used to examine the effects of particle fragmental pattern on the average molecular weights, polymerization rate and particle overheating in heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization. A two-site catalyst kinetic mechanism was employed together with a dynamic two-dimensional molecular species in diffusion-reaction equation. The i...
